House Speaker Asks for a Comprehensive 'New Normal' Protocol
Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Dr. (H.C.) Puan Maharani asked the Government not to hurriedly formulate the comprehensive plan of Implementing New Normal in dealing with COVID-19 mitigation protocol, so as to avoid further confusion in the public perspective./>
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs said the new normal protocol would certainly be different for each type of activity and location. For example, health protocols in markets will be different than that in shopping centers, schools, workplaces, or other public places./>
"WHO has formulated several considerations for countries before implementing a new normal protocol, such as capability to control the transmission of the Coronavirus and hospital’s capacity to test, isolate and handle each case and track each contact," Maharani explained in a press statement received by Parlementaria, Wednesday (5/27/2020)./>
In addition, before implementing the new normal protocol, scientific studies must be carried out in great length as a reference for policy-making. "Based on the case, data transparency is important because the government needs to disseminate Indonesia’s current position in the COVID-19 pandemic curve, as well as future forecast of the curve. That way, people would understand the rationale behind the formulation of the new normal protocol,” the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Politician said./>
Maharani added that, in the new normal protocol, there must be scenarios and simulations of what to do immediately, in case there is a new wave of Coronavirus transmissions. “Precautionary measures and procedures must be provided in great details. This includes identification of responsibilities of each stakeholder for any given action. All of them must be carried out in a stringent manner. It takes both the government's oversight and people's overall discipline for this to work out successfully,” she said. (ann/sf)/>
