The Indonesian House Speaker Dr. (H.C.) Puan Maharani urged the government to collaborate with the public, especially labor groups, in the deliberation of Omnibus Law on Job Creation’s derivative regulations. She said that such action is needed to work out clear details of regulations that can be accepted by all parties.
“We called on the government to involve various labor groups in the deliberation of Job Creation Law’s derivative regulations. The involvement of labors is needed to provide more information down to the last detail,” stated Maharani, Thursday (8/10/2020).
She emphasized that the Indonesian House would oversee the process to make sure that the derivatives regulations would provide fair benefit for all parties. The points in the regulations to be discussed with the labors include wages, social security schemes of laid-off workers, foreign workers, employment relations, and working hours.
The Indonesian House had invited public to participate in the deliberation of Job Creation Bill that was passed into Law on 5 October 2020. The deliberation was open, transparent, and publicly broadcasted on the House’ website.
Maharani said that the Indonesian House had established a technical team with representation of workers in a bid to manage unresolved complaints. “The Job Creation Law aims to not only bring more investment and increase Indonesia’s competitiveness but also create as many jobs as possible,” she added.
The first ever female House Speaker emphasized that the House would oversee the Job Creation Law’s implementation to ensure that it would continue to safeguard the labor’s interest. If the law needs more revision, as a state based on rule of law, there is lots of room for improvement through mechanisms based on the existing regulations.
“The House, through its oversight function, will continue to evaluate the law during its implementation to ensure that the law defends public interest,” Maharani concluded.
