GKSB Meet with Keiichi Ono to Purse Improved Ties
The Indonesian House’ Parliamentary Friendship Group (GKSB) warmly welcomed Keiichi Ono, Japanese Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia. Aryo P.S Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of Indonesia - Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, received the delegation at the House Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on 31 July 2018.
“He has just started his new assignment in Indonesia to build a closer diplomatic relation between Indonesia and Japan. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries since 1958,” Aryo said after the meeting.
The Gerindra lawmaker said both countries have been working together in many areas in order to maintain and cement the existing close relation. He mentioned a cooperation in rooting out human trafficking as one example.
“We will hold World Parliamentary Forum in Bali on 12-13 September 2018. One of the agenda is to create a sustainable socio-economic development between the two countries. And there are more to strive for, which we hope will bring success,” Aryo said.
Noting the fact that in the current global situation where the USA and China are engaging in a trade war, while the UK wants to leave the European Union (EU), Aryo hopes that both diplomatic ties remain intact and smooth, and bring a win-win solution for Japan and Indonesia.
During the meeting, Aryo was informed by Ono that Japanese Government would send more than 1,000 athletes to the biggest sport event in Asia—Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta-Palembang.
“That’s a very large delegation, considering they are also preparing to host the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and together with Indonesia and the Philippines co-host the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup”. (es/sf-mut)
