WPFSD Promotes Women’s Role in Renewable Energy
The role of women in energy consumption became one of the themes at the 2nd World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development (WPFSD). Meanwhile, the main theme of the meeting was “Partnership Towards Sustainable Energies for All”.
“One of the themes at The 2nd World Parliamentary Forum is sustainable energies for all. As we all know, the use of fossil energy is alarming. The Indonesian House of Representatives, therefore, initiates the theme of sustainable energies for all,” said Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, Chairperson of Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) on 12 September 2018 in Bali.
She said one of the reasons why the Committee chose the theme of women participation in energy was because of their dominant roles in household energy consumption. In addition, there are more women willing to innovate by recycling discarded items.
“We hope, through the theme of women participations, we can persuade people all over the world to acknowledge that women’s participation in renewable energy is very important,” said the Democrat Party Faction politician.
Nurhayati said the forum also invites Indonesian government representatives to present their programs and roles. The Indonesian House wants to show that the government will not be able to realize the sustainable development goals on their own , neither will the legislature.
“We do need synergy and coordination. We hope this achievement will result not only in an international roadmap, but also a legislation enacted by the House. Afterwards, we can provide the budget for the roadmap,” said the lawmaker from East Java constituency.
Therefore, Indonesia is proud to host the 2nd World Parliamentary Forum because it is the implementation of parliamentary diplomacy, especially in supporting the government ’s foreign policy, and more specifically the renewable and sustainable energy issues. (dep/sf/mut)
