House Wants Job Creation Bill to Promote MSME Development
A Vice Speaker of the House Rachmat Gobel emphasized that the Job Creation Bill included in omnibus bill must prioritize the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He also wanted that the nation’s traditional value must be promoted in the MSMEs’ products.
“I emphasize that the deliberations of articles in Omnibus Bill on Job Creation must prioritize the development of MSMEs,” stated the Vice Speaker Coordinator for Industry and Development in a meeting with Legislation Committee of the House on Tuesday (5/5/2020).
Gobel revealed that there are a lot of MSMEs businessmen in Indonesia sell imported products from China, such as children toys, textiles, and garments. Therefore, ways on how to increase the role of MSMEs communities in strengthening our nation must be put into consideration. “MSMEs in the fields of garments and textiles have a lot of traditional and added values that need to be reinforced, such as batik, handwoven fabric, and songket (traditional gold-threaded woven fabric),” said Gobel.
The National Democrat politician hoped the articles on Job Creation Bill would not merely touch on the issues of employment which hold no value. “I would also like to remind that the deliberation of Job Creation Bill should not prioritize the interests of foreign investors as it has the potential to weaken our nation. Foreign investors are only a complement, not the main one,” the legislator from Gorontalo constituency concluded.
