Chairperson of Commission III of the House, Herman Herry, said that the performance of the law enforcement has shown positive improvement. However, he urged law enforcement officers, namely Police, Attorney General’s Office, Judiciary, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to be more integrated in carrying out law enforcement.
Herry made the statement in response to the 75th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. He believed members of the law enforcement should build on this momentum to continue and improve the performance of law enforcement in Indonesia. “I noticed that our law enforcers have better synergy in performing their works. We recently saw how well the Police collaborated with the Attorney General and KPK in investigating the Djoko Tjandra case,” said Herry in a press statement in Jakarta, Monday (17/8/2020).
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician said such approaches need to be continuously adapted in the future, stressing that every law enforcer has to have an understanding that they are carrying out duties in an integrated law enforcement system. One of the encouraging facts in the law enforcement system is that people are now seeing an improved law enforcement officer integrity, added the legislator from East Nusa Tenggara III constituency.
Meanwhile, in terms of legislation, Herry sought public support to finish a number of bills. “Commission III will continuously seek support from all stakeholders in legislating Bills on Criminal Code (KUHP), Correctional Services, Constitutional Court, Prosecutor, Narcotics, and so forth. Those bills are expected to improve the performance of law enforcers,” Herry concluded. (eko/es)
