Chairperson of the Indonesia-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Group, Dyah Roro Esti, received a visit from the Peruvian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Luis Raul Tsuboyama Galvan. The meeting was organized with a view to promoting cooperation that has been established between the two countries, especially in COVID-19 management and in the tourism sector.

"So Indonesia and Peru have existing cooperation with regard to the Borobudur and Machu Picchu temples. We are looking at how our two countries can mutually promote cultural history in the two countries. I think it's important for both countries to improve their cultural histories, because in the future they will greatly contribute to the economic growth," explained Roro following a meeting with the Peruvian Ambassador at Nusantara III Building, Parliamentary Compound, Thursday (31/3/2022).

In addition to cultural issues, the meeting also brought up the topics of energy, industry, and climate change and its solutions. “The main topics that we discussed were climate change and energy transition. And while we were on the topic of these issues, we were talking on different ways we could mitigate climate change and find common solutions. I took the opportunity to explore more on the issue and how we could help each other,” she added.

The House Commission VII Member on energy and environment told Parlementaria that the focus of the Peruvian Ambassador was to improve the economic and trade activities of the two countries. This is a particularly significant topic of interest considering the economies of scale and unique strengths of the relevant countries.

"We export textiles, and also car parts, while Peru exports cocoa. And we also export palm oil, which is one of our most valuable export commodities, not only to Peru. With regard to palm oil specifically, the most important thing for me is to produce it in a sustainable manner. So while you make sure that business is running, environmental sustainability is also maintained," Roro asserted.

Concluding her remarks, Dyah Roro said that the Indonesia-Peru Friendship Group would visit Peru by the end of the year to further strengthen bilateral and inter-parliamentary relations. "So if there are other topics that both countries want to explore further, we will do it before the visit," concluded the East Java X electoral district legislator. (we/sf/agl)
