Chairperson of the House Commission III, the standing committee dealing with law and security affairs, Herman Hery made an appeal to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to develop stronger synergy in their law enforcement endeavours. Hery also revealed that Commission III is committed to building professional and valuable partnership, ensuring effective implementation of tasks and responsibilities of all state institutions. In carrying out its parliamentary functions, Commission III has always provided constructive input for the two law enforcement agencies while avoiding statements that might potentially lead to controversies in law enforcement practices.
"The Leadership of Commission III would call upon the AGO and the KPK to develop stronger synergy and put aside their institutional ego. That way, better synergy and communication will also manifest between the law enforcement officers. It will also contribute to fending off any attempt to pit one agency against the other," said Hery during a working meeting with the AGO and the KPK at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday (14/9/2020).
In a working meeting deliberating Annual Work and Budget Plans (RKAKL) of the AGO and KPK, Commission III of the Indonesian House gave its support to the two institutions by approving additional budget. The allocated budget for the AGO in 2021 is Rp 9.243 trillion (US$ 605.7 billion) and the proposed additional budget is Rp 400 billion (US$ 26.9 million). Meanwhile, the allocated budget for the KPK in 2021 is Rp 1.055 trillion (US$ 71 billion) and the proposed additional budget is Rp 825.92 billion (US$ 55.6 million).
“I wish to inform you all in this working meeting that Commission III is committed to supporting the performance of the AGO and KPK, as its working partners, in their annual budgeting plans. Although the budget support is still far from being sufficient, but at least there are additional budgetary funds,” Hery explained.
The budget approval shows the commitment of the commission in giving its support to the AGO and KPK as its counterparts. Hery also reaffirmed that the budget support should result in sinergy in the law enforcement tasks. “Commission III expects the two law enforcement institutions to foster harmony and sinergy in the law enforcement performance,” he added.
