Member of House Commission IX on manpower and transmigration Irma Suryani believes that the Government Regulation in lieu of the Job Creation Law needs to be reviewed from various points of view. She believes the regulation should not benefit only a certain group of people.

"There is something that the House needs to examine later when the regulation is submitted to the House. In order to improve the regulation, both the government and the House have to observe in details the provisions in the government regulation," said Suryani in an interview with Parlementaria at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, Monday (11/1/ 2022).

Suryani admits that the regulation is a lawful right of the President. It does not conflict with the prevailing legislation. However, in its implementation, all the related stakeholders, through the House, may provide their recommendations for the ministerial bylaw in detail to ensure its impartiality.

“I think the regulation can work, provided the House does not reject it. It then has to offer recommendations for the ministerial bylaw. It is the ministerial regulation where we will see the details that (may) work in favor of laborers. You certainly don’t want complications to arise as a lack of deliberation of the ministerial regulation," added the National Democrat Party politician.

To avoid prolonged upheaval, Suryani asked the Manpower Ministry to disseminate in detail the key points that would later be included in the ministerial regulation if the Job Creation Regulation was passed. According to her, this is imperative to prevent fake news.

"There’s a lot of fake news out there, and it did not escape workers who may not have the full picture given the biased nature of the information. Which is why crucial provisions that require revision should be accommodated in the ministerial regulation. I think that's what the Minister of Manpower should do to avoid controversies," said the Region II of South Sumatra constituency legislator in conclusion. (ts/aha/agl)
