PARLEMENTARIA, Jakarta - Vice Chairperson of House Commission IX (overseeing health, manpower, and population) Kurniasih Mufidayati has urged the government to mobilize resources effectively in tackling the escalating dengue fever crisis across the state. At least five regions in Indonesia have declared a State of Extraordinary Occurrence (KLB) due to dengue fever outbreaks. National dengue fever cases have doubled compared to the same period last year.

This surge in dengue fever cases has been accompanied by an increase in fatalities. Mufidayati mentioned the necessity for both the Central and Regional Governments to concentrate resources on prompt responses, ranging from prevention measures to ensuring healthcare facilities' readiness for the surge in cases.

"All preventive measures should be actively implemented in collaboration with the community, including fogging, larval source management (PSN), and the '3M Plus' approach. It's crucial for these efforts to be led by local sub-district offices directly engaging with the public," Mufidayati stated in Jakarta on Monday (3/25/2024), addressing Parlementaria.

She also highlighted the importance of healthcare facility preparedness, ensuring adequate treatment room availability. This is particularly critical given the potential strain on healthcare facilities in outbreak areas.

“We must ensure that healthcare facilities are not overwhelmed when the situation becomes critical.

"Especially considering concurrent disasters in several regions, all healthcare facilities must be fully prepared and on standby, recognizing that the dengue fever cycle extends over a considerable period. We must prevent healthcare facilities from becoming overwhelmed during critical situations," explained the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician.

Mufidayati urged the public to remain vigilant in response to the increasing dengue fever cases. She emphasized the importance of collective action, even within households, to implement larval source management and the '3M Plus' initiatives.

"Don't hesitate to seek medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility if experiencing symptoms. Early detection of dengue fever symptoms is essential for effective treatment," Mufidayati concluded. (rnm/rdn)
